At its core, interior design is the perfect combination of art and science — and that’s not an easy job but it’s all worth it when your designs finally come to life. Interior designers design and develop the spaces of inner areas based on consumer budgets and goals. They use area, coloration and movement in the formation of design plans that are both functional and aesthetically desirable.

Project management is an essential part of the job. Look out for a response that demonstrates leadership skills, an understanding of the complexities of project management, as well as lessons learned from the crisis, such as better planning of project timelines and budgets. Let’s explore interior design project management, the role of interior designers in project management’s play.

Interior design project management is the process of overseeing different types of interior design projects. For example, a designer may find themselves working on a residential space remodeling one week and collaborating on a new commercial space the next. Interior designers work with different clients spread across various industries.

And even though each project is different, all clients expect the same high-quality results on time and within budget.

There’s no universal project management workflow, many interior designers follow the same process when managing their projects to make sure the project flows as smoothly as possible from brief to final delivery. Managing a design project requires familiarity with all aspects including:

•         Planning and organizing schedules

•         Construction documents

•         Interacting with clients, contractors, and suppliers

•         Sourcing materials and products

•         Troubleshooting the problems that occur between all teams.

•         Managing accounts and invoicing
